ROUGEMONT ASSOCIATED WITH FARNHAM 1968 TO 1987

1968-1969
REV. BRUCE BAKER

In 1968, Rougemont became associated with the parish of Farnham and the Rev. Bruce Baker was appointed acting priest in charge.

At a meeting on June 13th 1968, a motion was passed to purchase for the sum of $1.00 from the Protestant School Trustees of the Municipality of St. Michel de Rougemont, the school property situated in front of the church to be used as a Community Hall.

During the year of 1969, church union with the United Church of Canada was discussed.

A donation of $1,200.00 was received from Mrs. Hattie Sutherland for the erection of a new cemetery fence.

In 1969, a new organ was purchased from Victor Martin, St.Hyacinthe for the sum of $500.00. The old organ was sold for the sum of $100.00.

1970-1974
REV. GRAHAM BURGESS

At the vestry meeting of 1971, Rev. Burgess mentioned the joint efforts of both the United Church and the Anglican Churches in the choice of a new Hymn Book and suggested the parish look into the purchase of these books. However, in 1972, it was felt that there was no need to change the hymn books. During, this period, Rougemont’s share of the minister’s stipend was increased from$900.00 to $1,050.00.

A Youth Club Comittee was formed to operate the activities in the Community Centre. Need for repairs to the basement were reported as well as the need to paint the exterior of the building.

Improvements had been made to the parsonage during the year of 1973 at a cost of $1,000.00 ; money donated by the tenant Mr. Brian Gotto with the approval of the Corporation.
