Rougemont

WILLING WORKERS

1915-1920

A meeting was held on February 7th 1915 at the school house, to organize a society for the young married and young ladies of Rougemont. It was decided that the society should be called the " Willing Workers".

Those people present were:

Mrs. Stanley Carden, Mrs. Edward Standish, Mrs. Bruce Standish, Mrs. Clarence Standish, Mrs. R. Standish, Miss Florence Standish and Miss Pansy Standish.

The money made by the Willing Workers was to be expended for the levelling of the grave-yard. Members were to meet every other Saturday at 2:30 P.M. at a meber's house. Each member was expected to pay the sum of twenty-five cents upon becoming a member of the Society and a fee of five cents at each meeting she attended.

The first projet was the making of an Autograph Quilt. Each member was to canvas for names, ten cents a name; there would be five names on each quilt block. On March 27th, 121 names had been sold. The quilt was worked on at the meetings and was sold at an Ice-Cream Social and Sale of fancy articles on July 10th. The quilt was sold to Stanley Carden for $3.25. Two other quilts were offered for sale; a carpet quilt donated by Miss A. Schoolcraft sold for $2.50 and a brick-work piece quilt donated by Mrs. A. Stilwell sold for 65 cents.

A thanksgiving supper was held at the Parsonage on October 16th 1915 with proceeds of $12.30 and expenses of $2.14. An Oyster Supper was held at Mrs. Sylvester Carden,s home on February 26th 1916. After one year of operations, the Society had a balance of $154.85.

It was voted on June 10th 1916, to donate electric lights for the gate posts at the entrance to the church at a cost of $26.42.

At a meeting in September 1916, a discussion was held on the necessity to adhere to business discussions at the beginning of the meetings. As well, mentionwas made of the food to be served at the meetings.

" A plain tea will be given which will consist of Bread and Rolls or biscuits, two kinds of cake, sauce, tea. If salad or cold meat is served, one kind of cake is sufficient. Each members pays a fee of 5 cents for her supper."
