PARISH OF ROUGEMONT 1881-1920
1881-1886
REV. R.D IRWIN
The Rev. R.D Irwin became Incumbent of Rougemont in 1881. The Parish was now separated
from Abbotsford, and Mr. Irwin had sole charge. During Mr. Irwin,s Incumbency, the present
parsonage was built. Mr. Irwin remained at Rougemont for four years. He resigned to fill a
similar position at Lakefield.
1886-1887
REV. G. MC MANUS
The rector of Chambly, Rev. G. Mc Manus ministered to the needs of the
congregation. A difficulty arose between the church wardens and the Incumbent; the wardens
resigned and a short time later the Incumbent left to become a city missionary in
Montreal.
1888-1889
MR. W.J.M BEATTIE
Students from the Diocesan Thological College, situated on Dorchester Street, served
the Parish for a short period. Mr. W.J.M Beattie had charge of the parish for two years
before being appointed as Incumbent of Franklin Center, Quebec.
1889
MR. WILLIAM FYLES
Mr. William A Fyles, B.A., student, was in charge of the parish for the summer of 1889.
1889-1901
MR. WILLIAM J.MELROSE WATERSON
Mr. Waterson entered upon his duties as a student and was instrumental in having 2
drains dug and tiled; one extending from the brow of the Church hill- south- across the
church yard to east of and behind the church, thence to the boundary line fence due north
across the glebe to Matthew Standish. This drain was tiled with stone. Another drain from
the foot of the church hill, this drain is on the road, to the bridge leading into the
cemetery was dug and tiled with six inch tiles procured from MacNally Co. Montreal. The
tile and freight by boat to Chambly amounted to eleven dollars. The work in connection
with both these drains was given gratuitously. |
